The police said the supervisor who had criticized Mr. Sherrill the day before over his performance was not at work at the time of the shootings because he had overslept. (although another news article said he reported to work at a different time in order to stay later).Another supervisor who was with the supervisor in his meeting with Mr. Sherrill was among the dead.

Highlights include: Sherrill was hired as a distribution clerk by the Oklahoma City postal service on Feb. 20, 1982. During a three-month probationary period, Sherrill flunked a required examination. The report revealed Sherrill “resigned while charges were being prepared against him.”
