NALC President Urges Congress to Reject Proposal to Study 5-Day Delivery
From The National Association of Letter Carriers:
Young protests “wasteful” appropriations amendment: President Young is urging Congress to reject a proposal by Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) to order USPS to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of adopting a five-day delivery week. In a letter sent to top congressional leaders, Young notes that a similar yet more comprehensive study of universal service is already underway, as mandated by the 2006 postal reform law. “Saddling the Postal Service with the responsibility for conducting or participating in a duplicative study of Saturday delivery is unnecessary and wasteful,” Young said. Thanks Bill Young for pissing our OT away by allowing TE’S to be hired. You may as well eliminate Sat. delivery.

I think going to a 5 day work week would be what could really keep the PO up & running, the reason the unions fight the 5 day work week is money, because the jobs lost would hurt there bottom line. Lets say that 10000 letter carriers across the United States would either go to another craft or be out of a job because of the 5 day work week. that would be 10000 letter carriers that would not be paying whatever there dues would be for 26 pay periods Say they pay $20 a pay period probable more thats $ 520000.00 a year that the big wigs in the union cannot spend. I think the Postal Service should do what it has to do and the heck with the union leaders taking more money.

You wouldn’t have to get rid of anyone but the TE’s.

Get RID of Saturday delivery. It will help the morale of Letter Carriers. Right now, Letter Carriers are at it’s lowest low in morale Mr. President, NALC.
July 20th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Yes for saturday day off.
1. Postal service will save so much money
2. Postal workers would be so much happier and moral will be up so much
3. We can spend the day with our families watching our kids sports and other things the kids do

I don’t see anyone losing their job. We are down routes everyday and with sick calls and vacation time there would be routes open.
Most routes are over burden so others too help will be good.

Do people really need the new Cabela’s catalog Sat. morning? This would be 1/6 fuel savings, 1/6 less accidents, 1/6 vehicle wear and tear, 1/6 less dog bites etc, etc,. Plus, we could actually spend our weekends with our families fishing, going to the zoo, grilling, etc. Better bottom line plus higher morale? Hmmm.

???? Who is NALC working for? It sure is not the had working letter carrier. I bet Young and his playmates are not delivering mail sat.

But, our almighty union president has Saturdays off, so why should he give a rats rear end whether you see your kids ball game, or dance recital.
He’s too busy kissing politicians behinds to tend to union business. How did he get that job anyway? I’m sick of looking a his poodle head every time I turn around at the Post Office.
Heaven forbid, the Postal Service would make a logical decision, like eliminating Saturday
delivery.
No, Postal Customers need to keep receiving front door delivery for free. . . I mean, after all, they used to receive delivery two times a day, for FREE. . .
It’s too late for me. . .I’ve already missed all my kid’s Saturday Ball Games, and now I’m missing my grandkids, but if I were young, and still had years and years to work, I would REALLY be raising a ruckus. . .
Have fun with it, get everyone to participate. write your Congressmen and Senators. . .

Eliminating Saturday delivery is a great idea. Moving to four ten hour days would help move the heavier volume of mail and would not eliminate the jobs of TE’s, PTF’s, or RCA’s

Ending sat. delivery makes great business sense, plus it would allow a weary work force a chance to recover w/2 days consecutive off ,happy workers are more efficient workers…

I am all for a 5 day work week. The Post Office woul save enough it could afford to pay an incentive for early outs, then. But it needs to be for everyone, not just carriers. We are just as tired as the rest of you of having to work every Saturday, and we don’t get the three day weekend evry fifth week.
