Letter Carriers to Picket Postal Headquarters Monday April 16
Letter Carriers to Picket Postal Service Headquarters to Protest Outsourcing Mail Delivery to Private Firms
Press Release
Letter carriers from 18 states across the nation, including National Association of Letter Carriers President William H. Young, will demonstrate in front of U.S. Postal
Service headquarters with informational picketing on Monday, April 16 at 2
p.m. EDT to protest contracting out of city letter carriers jobs.
Young and the letter carriers will be joined by members of Congress
angered at the Postal Service’s decision to outsource mail delivery to both
existing and future city letter carrier territory to private companies and
individuals.
The NALC and its supporters in Congress believe contracting out will
expose both residential and business postal customers to security problems,
poor service, and a disjointed and unreliable delivery workforce.
At the demonstration, Young plans to deliver a message to Postmaster
General John E. Potter demanding a halt to the practice.
WHEN: Monday, April 16 at 2 p.m. EDT
WHERE: In front of Postal Service Headquarters, 475 L’Enfant Plaza, SW,
Washington, DC.
WHO: NALC President William H. Young, letter carriers from over 18
states, and members of Congress.
WHAT: To protest contracting out of letter carrier work to private
companies and individuals.
Further information is available on the NALC website: http://www.nalc.org.

Young should think twice before he is willing to
call his union a partner with the USPS.
What a weak leader. You will never be considered
a partner. What kind of union leader are you
anyway?

Are they going to hold signs showing their gross income for last year? If the public knew that they would demand all routes be contracted.

It is about high time that Bill Young stands up to management. For too long, management has expected the most out of letter carriers for the least amount of money and respect.
Believe me, there is no respect for us in the workplace for the most part!!

Thanks to Bill Young for standing up for us. Top salary that I make…after 23 years with the Post Office is 49,000 a year.
Is that too much? We are Middle Class America and President Young is out there trying to preserve these jobs for you and your children and also for American Veterans who will be returning from this war and who need employment to support their families.
Look at cases that have come up where contracted out employees are not held to the same standards as regular postal employees. Look at how UPS was just dinged in Washington State because a contracter had employed 50 illegal aliens. Come on folks…get a clue. Give respect where it is due. I know that I have 900 families on my route who appreciate the job that I do for them and I love them for the support that they give to me…
I am so tired of ungrateful grumps who act as tho it is only them who deserve a fair deal in this lifetime.
God Bless Bill Young!!

It is high time we take the stage to let the public know that we care about service to our customers, management only thinks about their very own bonuses and their numbers games, management has never given a damn about customer service. They always bark about their budget in the black but when it comes time for contract negoiations they cry about being in the red. Simply amazing!

CONTRACTING OUT WILL LEAD TO MORE IDENTITY THEFT AND MORE INSTABILITY IN THE POSTAL SERVICE. CONGRESS NEEDS TO TAKE A REAL LOOK HOW UNDERSTAFFED CRAFT EMPLOYEES ARE. CHICAGO IS ONLY ONE EXAMPLE OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS MISMANAGEMENT. LET LETTER CARRIERS DO THEIR JOB WITHOUT COMPUTER NUMBERS BEING THROWN AT THEM.THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS NO IDEA HOW CARRYING THE MAIL HAS CHANGED FROM A SIMPLE ONE BUNDLE SYSTEM TO THREE, FOUR , FIVE. HOW FAR WILL THE POSTAL SERVICE TAKE THIS STUPIDITY.I AM GETTING CLOSE TO RETIREMENT BUT I PRAY THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE WILLING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. GET BACK TO REALITY AND CARRIERS WILL NOT BE ON THE STREET UNTIL DARK. CONGRESS HELP!

I am the wife of a postal carrier who is a Vietnam Vet. My husband is a hard worker who rarely takes a sick day. He is NOT earning a huge income - I work too and we are very middle class. He joined the Post Office because he got tired of having the companies he worked for downsize him out of a job or go belly-up right underneath him. Now it looks as though we may face this at the Post Office as well. Shame on the USPS to put all our identities at risk, plus the security of the mail system to save a buck. What happens if all the Letter Carriers are laid off and there is another terrorist type attack on the mail? How will untrained, low wage laborers, many hired right off the street, handle the situation. GOOD LUCK ! ! ! President Bush claims he is sooooo concerned with national security, yet he’s been out to privitize the Post Office since BEFORE he was first elected. Gee, has he forgotten the anthrax that was sent through our postal system? Doesn’t he realize that there are those, here in this country already, who would love to take advantage of a lapse in Post Office security? Is making more money for his cronies more important than preserving the Post Office as a secure way to send mail?! I won’t even begin to comment on what could happen to all the mail that is being sent overseas to members of our military. I for one do NOT want MY credit card statements, My bank statements, My social security information in the hands of ANYONE but a union Letter Carrier - sworn-in, background check and all.
