USPS to Conduct Search for Sex Offenders on Postal Payroll
The Postal Service issued the following notices in the Federal Register:
The Postal Service plans to conduct an ongoing matching program to identify any current Postal Service employees, who are required by state law to register on a state’s public registry of sex offenders. State registries contain information about individuals who are statutorily required to register, having committed sexually-violent offenses against adults or children, certain other crimes against victims who are minors, or other comparable offenses. The Postal Service is undertaking this initiative to ascertain the suitability of individuals for certain positions or employment. The Postal Service will compare its payroll database for employees working in designated states against public records contained in the state sex offender registries.
After extensively verifying the accuracy of the information, the Postal Service will use the information to determine whether reported offenses may impact on an individual’s suitability for certain positions or employment. The Postal Service will analyze each occurrence on a case-by-case basis to determine the appropriate action to take. In this regard, the Postal Service will consider the seriousness of the offense, the date of the offense, and the nature of the employee’s position with the Postal Service.
Federal Register NOTICES
Update: According to Jon Leonard, Acting Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications
The Postal Service has also notified its unions and management associations that it is developing a policy which would require employees to alert management of any action that causes their name to be recorded on a sex offender registry.
Postal Service customers have a well-placed trust in our employees and we are determined to do all we can to keep that trust.

In San Diego, we have a few sex offenders on the rolls. The USPS was aware of their status as convicted felons and registered sex offenders and hired them anyhow. Some people feel a little uncomfortable working with rapists and molesters. Would you like to close up a station with one? Maybe I’m being prejudiced. We just need to see them more as a alternate lifestyle in a diverse cultural community, and be more tolerant….

In Roanoke they promote them and pass them on to Lynchburg. Just what you want as supervisor is a sex offender. I am sure he isn’t a problem because very few 8 year old girls work there.

Let me ask you a question do you know any sex offenders? Do you a guy who’s supposed victim was his sister and they were kids when the athourities coerced them into saying things that weren’t true and scarring them into taking a plea bargain at 17 so that they would be charged as an adult an have there entire life ruined and even when there sister recants her story after all these years the state won’t change the rulling. what about that person do they not deserve to work what about his wife and kids do they not derserve to eat and live
