 Memo: USPS to Comply With FMLA Court Decision in Only Three  States - Procedures for Craft Employees Returning to Work Following FMLA-Protected Absences - In a memo issued to field managers by USPS VP Anthony Vegliante, "On July 19, 2005 the case of Harrell v. U.S. Postal Service, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled that the Postal Service's return to work provisions in ELM 865.1 cannot be applied to bargaining unit employees returning from FMLA-protected absences. The Postal Service will comply with the Harrell decision in those facilities located within the three states subject to the court's jurisdiction: Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. In all facilities not located within Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin, continue to apply ELM 865.1 as written." (source: USPS via APWU) ( August 14, 2005 )

 USPS Expands on Disclosures Permitted under Privacy Act.-Disciplinary records are maintained in Labor Relations computers until 10 years after separation.  This is true even if the employee thinks the disciplinary records have been expunged.  LR records are easily retrieved now that they are stored electronically.  Employees should be forewarned and advised to save their own files until separation or later. -- Don Cheney

 USPS Issues Removal to Mail Handler for Creating Hostile Work Environment (pdf)

html- USPS issued a removal to Mail Handler after charging  him with 9 incidents of creating a hostile work environment --and that his removal would promote the efficiency of the service. One of the incidents Mail Handler was accused of : "making inappropriate 'monkey sounds' as a co-worker walked by."
